A famous Delray Beach live music joint nestled by the train tracks gets a menu makeover.
Johnnie Browns, a Delray Beach Locals' Favorite, Gets a Menu Makeover
Chances are, if you've strolled down Atlantic Avenue, or "The Ave," as locals like to call it, you've heard the live music coming from a bar on the train tracks. You've likely seen the crowd spilling out onto the sidewalks hoping for a chance to listen, and you may have gotten a whiff of some cigarette smoke. This is how I've come to know Johnnie Browns over the years. Until recently.
Johnnie Browns' menu was recently given a chef-curated revamping. You'll still find quintessential bar favorites like burgers, wings, and nachos, but they've been given a sprucing up. We started our meal with fish dip, and we were pleasantly surprised to taste fresh, smokey wahoo. More so, it's nice to learn that Johnnie Browns is sourcing their fish locally, from Captain Clay and Sons Seafood Market around the corner, for example. Sipping a locally crafted Florida beer with the fish dip made me quite appreciative of their local support.
Their burger menu left me in a quandary. Did I want the Mexican burger with chorizo, chipotle aioli, and jalapeno cheese? I do love spice. Or did I want the bacon dusted Good Old Smokey BBQ burger? The choices were all enticing, but I went with the Juicy Lucy, a specialty originating from Minneapolis, simply because I cannot turn down a burger which boasts a "gooey cheese stuffed burger patty." I'm confident that I love cheese more than most people. This burger delivered what it promised, but was I stuffed!
Of course, as stuffed as I claimed to be, I still made room for key lime pie. There is always room for key lime pie.
