Sassafras West Palm Beach 12.5.22

A return to my favorite comfort food in Palm Beach County

Life was a lot different over the summer. I was living in Palm Beach County, and I was waiting to start a new job. Since my last experience at Sassafras in June, I've moved to Miami, and Sassafras briefly closed.

Now it's almost 2021, and their hiatus is over. Did I think it was worth making the one hour drive north? Absolutely. Sassafras, to me, is the best place to experience comfort food in Palm Beach County. Open and airy, bright and charming, it is still the best place for a date, a happy hour, or a bite of fried chicken.

What I most appreciate about Sassafras is that, while the menu constantly changes - a good thing, in my opinion - it's always getting better, and you do not need to necessarily say goodbye to some menu items you've loved. In June, Chef John was preparing crispy chicken skins sour cream and onion style. They were positively one of the most delicious things I'd ever eaten. They're not gone; rather they have evolved. They are now being prepared cacio e pepe style with shaved black truffles. In June, we also had ham with hoe cakes. Now it's being prepared with beautiful slices of citrus, fennel, and pickled peppers.
